Old carpet has a way of overstaying its welcome. Stains, wear paths, that flat matted look that no amount of cleaning can fix - at some point it's just time to move on. That's exactly where this home was.
We pulled out the carpet in two rooms and installed 7mm, 20 mil wear layer luxury vinyl plank throughout. The 20 mil wear layer is worth paying attention to. That's a commercial-grade thickness on a residential floor - it handles kids, pets, and heavy furniture without showing it. This isn't the thin stuff you peel up in a few years.
The before shots tell the whole story. Both rooms had carpet that was coming apart at sections, exposing the subfloor underneath. Not a great look, and not something you patch around. We stripped it clean and started fresh. The dark wood-tone LVP we laid down completely changed the feel of both spaces - warmer, cleaner, and a lot easier to keep that way.
What most homeowners don't realize about LVP at this thickness is how forgiving it is underfoot. It's not cold and hard like tile. It has just enough give to feel comfortable, and the rigid core keeps it flat and stable over time. For rooms that see daily use, it's honestly one of the smartest floor choices out there right now.
If you've got carpet that's past its prime, swapping it out for LVP is one of the higher-impact upgrades you can make without a major renovation. The difference is immediate - and it holds up.
